Two teachers from Politeknika Txorierri, Koldo Garaigordobil and Jokin Gioiaga, pertaining to the course of Telecommunication and Computer System have been accompanied by technical staff from the company Nexmachina to visit the 5G laboratory of the National Reference Centre in Getafe (Madrid). There, they had the chance to learn first-hand about their cutting-edge technology with the aim of incorporating it into the centre's training offer. Taking the trip as an advantageous opportunity, they have also contacted the company Ayscom, a supplier of 5G equipment and fibre optic backbone networks, to analyse the possible introduction of these systems in their laboratories. Both teachers believe that in the near future 5G technology will be key in the implementation of the most advanced IoT systems. For this reason, Politeknika Txorierri wants to train its students, both theoretically and practically, and thus meet the demand for future specialised technicians expected in this technological area.

Moreover, Nexmachina is a company dedicated to the installation of IOT systems in Smart Cities, Industry 4.0 and Smart Buildings to improve energy efficiency and production systems. This organisation has collaborated with Politeknika Txorierri in the digitisation of the conventional mechanical workshop. It has implemented a series of IOT sensors with LORA technology to capture data that will be used to improve the operation of the workshop, such as energy and water consumption meters, noise and light sensors, machine lubricant levels, etc.

This initiative to improve the centre has been largely motivated thanks to the SMACITE project, which aims to improve the skills of technicians and engineers to support Smart Cities.
